3rd World Youth Congress 2005 in Scotland

“Young people working together for sustainable development.” Invited by the Scottish Executive and the British NGO Peace Child International, about 600 young delegates from 128 countries gathered in August 2005 in Stirling in order to discuss and exchange about their initiatives and projects.

During the Congress, they conducted and participated in thematic and skills workshops, elaborated a policy document about “youth-led development”, realised several “action projects” all over Scotland and – last but not least – enjoyed the cultural programme.

It was an occasion for World Youth Citizens to meet up again and to develop their ideas. Some of us already participated in the preparatory committee in Wales one year before. During the Congress, we run an exhibition stand and conducted a workshop.

The workshop aimed on finding project partners for the young people in Germany who had given us their partnership proposals. Concrete outcomes were a partnership between WYC Berlin and a group in Cambodia as well as the first drafts for the “waste management programme” in Ecudador. (To know more about, just have a look at “projects”)

In this way, the WYC network has grown a bit bigger. The next World Youth Congress is planned to be held in Québec, Canada, in 2008.
