“You have to be the change you want to see in the world”, said Mahatma Ghandi once. Under this motto, the second edition of the Student Days “One World” brought together again about 1,200 high-school students to deal with global issues. An accompanying cultural programme focused on the eight Millennium Development Goals.
During a panel discussion, some of the international guests had the occasion to debate with the German coordinator of the UN Millennium Campaign, Dr. Renée Ernst, about “Youth-led development and the MDGs”. One main character of this years workshop programme was that project partners from different countries could conduct a common workshop and, by doing so, develop their project with the feedback of the German high-school students. Furthermore, several young people from Karlsruhe and other parts of Germany presented their activities and political engagement.
The Student Days were organised by the WYC group in Karlsruhe in the framework of the Local Agenda 21 and supported by the local Youth Council as well as “Aktion Mensch”, a German lottery for social projects.
